Ohio Wesleyan University invites applications for a Serials and Government Documents Manager to work in our Library. Reporting to the Head of Collection Services, the Serials and Government Documents Manager has responsibility for managing print and microfilm subscriptions, and assisting in the acquisition of electronic journals and journal databases, along with managing and processing government documents. Other major duties include copy cataloging and materials processing.
The successful candidate must have a minimum of two years of college and two years of relevant experience working in a library, along with familiarity of an Integrated Library System and OCLC. Essential skills include the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; the ability to manage time effectively and set priorities; the ability to resolve problems independently and make informed decisions. Must be able to accurately work with complex details. Quantitative skills and proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word, and general computer productivity software solutions are required. The successful candidate must be able to communicate and work effectively within the OWU Libraries; collaborate effectively with counterparts at consortial partner institutions; and on occasion, lift 40-50 pounds.
A bachelor's degree; experience with Innovative's Millennium Serials Module; and direct experience working with serials and/or government documents in an academic library.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
1. Manages the subscription and renewal process for print and microfilm subscriptions, and assists in the acquisition of electronic journals and journal databases.
2. Pays serials invoices, provides financial reports, and contributes to the management of the serials budget.
3. Manages and contributes to statistics and record keeping related to serials.
4. Is the primary user of Innovative's Millennium Serials Module and a contributor to the work connected to EBSCOnet and Serials Solutions 360 Core accounts.
5. Is responsible for contacting and working with vendor representatives and publishers to gather information or troubleshoot a problem.
6. Supervises computer check-in of print periodicals and claims missing print periodicals.
7. Manages the print serials collections and associated annual maintenance.
8. In collaboration with the Discovery Services Librarian, is responsible for maintaining and accessing electronic journals, working in four different systems; Millennium, EBSCOnet (vendor), Serials Solutions (vendor) and OCLC (vendor).
1. Catalogs current and historical government documents.
2. Creates item records for government documents publications including paper, CD-ROM, and microfiche.
3. Checks in items using a check-in card for paper publications.
4. Maintains awareness of information in Administrative Notes and Technical Supplement and makes changes and updates as required.
5. Checks for updates and corrections to Government Documents publications using WEBTech database on FDLP (Federal Depository Libraries website).
6. Prepares required monthly statistical report.
7. Creates offer list of items being withdrawn from collection.
Copy Cataloging & Materials Processing
1. Assists with copy cataloging monographic library materials by searching, editing, updating and exporting bibliographic records using OCLC or attaching item records for inclusion into the library's online catalog (Millennium).
2. Supervises and participates in preparation of library materials for shelving.
3. Withdraws missing, damaged, and outdated materials as identified by librarians.
4. Supervises and maintains an even workflow of materials through the department.

1. Assists in hiring, supervising, evaluating and training student assistants in serials, government documents, and materials processing.
2. Participates as a member of the Collection Services Department in planning and development of policies, procedures, goals and objectives.
3. Participates in library-wide planning; serves as a member of library committees.
4. Represents OWU and works collaboratively with counterparts at our consortial partner institutions (Five Colleges of Ohio, CONSORT, and OhioLINK).
5. Maintains current awareness of trends and policies regarding serials management in academic libraries.
6. Assumes other duties as assigned.
