| Job Description |
Catalogs library material in all formats (including DVDs and electronic resources) using AACR2 and Dewey Decimal classification, subject headings, and rule interpretations with related authority work.
Performs original descriptive cataloging of library material in accordance with current cataloging standards.
Provides leadership and technical expertise in the investigation and application of new methods for the organization of library materials utilizing established and emerging bibliographic control mechanisms and metadata standards.
Coordinates the preparation of related statistics, reports, surveys, manuals and files associated with the Cataloging unit.
Participates in college governance by serving on joint, ad hoc, faculty, campus, division and discipline committees.
Participates in college and community service activities.
Participates in professional growth activities and maintains awareness of new trends and developments within areas of instructional responsibility.
Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Master's degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA-accredited college or university with 2 years cataloging experience.
Demonstrated knowledge of the Anglo-American Cataloging Rules 2nd Edition (AACR2); Resource Description and Access (RDA); Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH).
Demonstrated knowledge of MARC21 formats and records; including bibliographic, authority and holding records and understanding of cataloging in an integrated library system..
Demonstrated knowledge of Dewey Decimal Classification System .
Knowledge of OCLC's cataloging subsystem.
Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to use word-processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, and other types of office software.
Strong attention to details and strong interpersonal skills including the ability to establish positive relationship with students, faculty and staff. Job Specific Task List Qualifications: Preferred Experience Master's degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA-accredited college or university with five years cataloging experience in a post-secondary environment.
Knowledge and commitment to the community college mission
Experience cataloging on the SirsiDynix Unicorn/Symphony ILS
