| Job Description |
As a member of the Library's Reference Services Team, serve as a liaison to academic departments as assigned, providing collection development and instructional services. As a member of the Research Services Team, the Health Sciences Librarian will participate in the collaborative development of library resources and services and provide general research assistance service as assigned.
This position reports to the College Librarian. This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but may provide day-to-day direction and guidance to student assistants assigned to the Library.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Identify the information needs and information behavior of the library's primary users in the health sciences and utilize this knowledge to effectively meet and enhance research and user services.
Establish communications with Health Sciences departmental faculty to include: serving as a consultant to develop instructional programs that utilize the library's resources; keeping faculty apprised of changes, new acquisitions, and relevant print and online resources; identifying and/or initiating opportunities to collaborate with faculty in the development of library collections, instructional offerings, and other library services.
Design and implement departmental instructional activities including workshops to be offered in the library and at the Rochester DPT location.
Solicit faculty and student opinions on new acquisitions in all formats.
Scan appropriate reviews and selection tools on an ongoing basis to identify potential additions to the collection, including electronic sites for linkage to library's website and online guides.
Monitor and track expenditures of funds budgeted for collection development in the Health Sciences disciplines and ensure the timely expenditure of these funds within the fiscal year.
Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of information service policies, procedures and publications.
Maintain familiarity with library policies and procedures and accurately communicate policies to patrons and staff, as necessary.
Provide general reference service and oversee research help service point, as scheduled.
Assess use of library services and resources and make recommendations regarding continuations and/or changes.
Assist with special projects, as assigned.
Position/Job Qualifications Masters Degree in Library Science from an ALA- accredited school; demonstrated knowledge of information processes and resources; ability to deliver user-centered information services; strong public service orientation; excellent oral and written communication skills; demonstrated evidence of the ability to work with diverse students, faculty & colleagues; experience in preparation, delivery and evaluation of effective library instruction; ability to deal positively, collegially, and proactively within a changing environment; understanding of, and the ability to, conduct research in the health sciences; experience with the analysis of user needs and the ability to work effectively both in a team environment and independently are required. Experience in health sciences reference and information literacy initiatives in an academic or special library, and relevant undergraduate or graduate coursework is preferred.
