Job Summary:
Provides skilled research and customized reference services to members of the firm, provides database and Internet instruction, and helps maintain resource links on the firm’s Intranet.
Essential Functions:
· Provides legal, business, and competitive intelligence research services, responding to in-person and electronic information requests using a variety of manual and online services. Analyzes and distributes information to requestor in a logical and clear manner.
· Provides skilled and customized reference services on legal and relevant non-legal topics.
· Evaluates the quality, authenticity, accuracy, and cost of traditional and electronic sources, and conveys the importance of these to the library client.
· Demonstrates a strong commitment to excellent client service.
· Creates research and bibliographic tools (handouts, aids, pathfinders, bibliographies) on legal and related topics.
· Effectively teaches library clients with differing needs and technological skill levels how to effectively use online services and the internet.
· Displays excellent communication skills and is able to promote the library and advocate for its needs.
· Stays abreast of current events in the legal and business information industries.
· Actively pursues personal and professional growth through continuing education.
· Promotes the effective use of new technologies for the retrieval of information.
· Shares knowledge and expertise with library clients and colleagues.
Additional Responsibilities:
· Provides other library related duties.
Qualifications: Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited school and five years related experience. J.D. from ABA accredited school preferred. Expert knowledge of print and online legal and business research resources and methodologies including Lexis and Westlaw. Expert knowledge or ability to learn several of the following systems: Pacer, D&B, Corsearch, Westlaw Business (GSI), West Monitor Suites, and Hoovers. Good written and oral communication and organizational skills, strong service orientation, knowledge of and experience with electronic resources, information technology, and computer hardware and software.
