| Job Description |
Will be a member of the Library, Archives, and Records Section and will report to the Manager of the Library Group. Will be responsible for planning, implementing, and configuring library automated systems, including the integrated library system, the JPL Authors Database, the institutional technical report server, the document delivery/interlibrary loan system, the Sec.273 website, and other Section 273 systems as needed. Will develop, implement, and evaluate use of Web 2.0 tools for the Section website. Will provide operational support for library, archives, and/or records systems, including reports, data extraction and loading, user interface customization, process documentation, and client installation.
Will develop and update desk procedures and workflows to align with applicable systems. Will coordinate with IT support personnel to support Section systems. Will keep abreast of new developments in library, archives, and records automated systems and participate in relevant user groups and/or professional organizations.
Will recommend and oversee enhancements and upgrades to supported systems. Will deliver user training online and in-person.
Responsible for facilitating technical and scholarly research by providing electronic search resources for external and internal information, documents, journals, publications and institutional records. Develop and maintain electronic databases and information search systems. Create and organize physical and virtual collections of books, journals, documents, and records according to industry, government, and institutional standards, procedures, and best practices. Provide institutional guidance on records retention and disposition; maintain the permanent institutional archives.

•Delivers prepared training and makes suggestions for improvement.
•Applies information science, archival, and/or records management principles to recommend improvements for information access and reuse.
•Performs moderately complex job functions and activities within assigned area.
•Uses applicable policies, procedures and practices as guides to determine work methods and deliver results.
•Work is reviewed for accuracy and overall adequacy.

Skills
Required Skills:
•Typically requires a Bachelors degree in Library and Information Science, or a related discipline with a minimum of 1 year of related experience; or a Masters degree in a similar discipline.
•Minimum 3.0 GPA.
•Some knowledge in one or more of the following areas: cataloging principles, resource description and access standards, and library automated systems.
•General understanding and application of standard principles, theories, concepts and techniques in information science and library business processes.
•General knowledge of applicable industry and/or academic practices and standards in digital library standards for description, access, delivery and preservation.
•Unix skills, including shell scripting and basic knowledge of at least one programming language, Perl preferred.
Desired Skills:
Complete knowledge of Laboratory policies and procedures, NASA policies and procedures, and government regulations across a range of applications.
•Masters in Library and Information Science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program.
•Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
•Knowledge of integrated library systems, such as Sirsi Unicorn (Unix) or Sydneyplus (Windows).
•Familiarity with Open Archives Initiative (OAI).
•Working knowledge of OCLC, Worldcat, and ILLiad.
•Project management experience.
•Knowledge of context-linking, metasearch, and information exchange standards.
