Job Description |
The University of Houston seeks a collaborative and energetic librarian to plan and administer the programs and daily operations of the Music Library, with considerable scope for planning and implementing new services and initiatives, including the application of new technologies. The Coordinator will serve as the liaison to the Moores School of Music and the School of Theatre and Dance within the Katherine G. McGovern College of the Arts. In addition to responsibilities for collection development, instruction, outreach, and research support, the coordinator will also have opportunities to contribute to projects that advance the UH Libraries’ Strategic Plan. This position will supervise, train, and evaluate the branch supervisor who manages 2 full time staff members, as well as student workers. This position reports to the Associate Dean for Academic and Research Services.
The Coordinator of the Music Library is a librarian position. Librarians hold academic rank pursuant to the University of Houston Librarians’ Bylaws Document. They are expected to develop a record of service, scholarship, and professional involvement. The UH Libraries support the ongoing professional development of librarians and our goal is to recruit librarians committed to continuous learning.
Qualifications:
Required –
Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program
Subject background in musicology
Ability to work strategically and collaboratively with stakeholders
Demonstrated excellent communication skills
Preferred –
Supervisory experience
Bachelor’s degree or higher in music
Experience in a music library
Experience or demonstrated interest in user education
Salary: $64,000 to $68,000 expected hiring range, depending on qualifications. Comprehensive benefits package; choice of retirement programs including TIAA-CREF; tax-deferred annuity program available; release time to take a class up to 3 hours/week; no state or local income tax.
