Annual Business Meeting & Chapter Awards

Reprinted with permission from SLA-SCC News Vol 32 No 37 Pg 4.

This year's chapter business meeting was again held at the Toyota Museum and Archives. Chapter president Jay Springer and the museum's Susan Sanborn lead the tour, spouting off curious details about the vehicles. (Incredibly, one early 1980s minivan came equipped with an automatic ice maker!)

After a scrumptious dinner, each of the Executive Board members gave a recap of this year's accomplishments regarding their offices. Alan Schroeder, president-elect, then presented the Karen Sternheim Memorial Scholarship award check to Peggy Shin. In her speech, Peggy thanked chapter members David Cappoli and Richard Hulser for their support and guidance.

The Billie Connor Award for continuous, meritorious service was presented to Belinda Beardt for her dedication to the chapter. The Billie Connor Award is the SLA Southern California chapter's highest honor and is awarded only when the Executive Board feels there is a worthy recipient. Belinda has volunteered in various capacities over the years, including Hospitality Chair, Advertising Chair, and Fundraising Chair. Belinda currently serves as the Vendor Relations Chair, which is a combination of advertising and fundraising activities.

Lillian Hernandez was recognized with a meritorious service award for several years of behind-the-scenes work as the chapter's Elections Chair. Susan Hendrickson, Awards Chair, recalled that Lillian once noted, "I can't always attend board meetings, but my work on the elections is something that I can do to help the chapter."
